Anybody else find it interesting that Botta has been silent on twitter the last couple of weeks? I know he was pumping Barroway big time but him not commenting on any of this craziness the last few weeks is kind of weird

Not even a comment on the sale just strikes me as odd. Any rumblings on a deal for another D-Man?

Not sure why the last couple of days you have been coming in here trying to cast doubt on whether the Isles are staying or not. Get over it they aren't going anywhere. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish other then trying to stir up crap. That ship sailed a couple of years ago.

Relax, my Islander friend. I'm not trying to stir up any crap.

I find the business of sports to be interesting.

The Wanger tried for years to use the Islanders as leverage for a huge real estate deal, which would greatly increase the value of the franchise. He failed.

Now he is selling it to guys who have a track record of a) improving the value of companies they purchase and b) New York City (which includes Brooklyn - a fact we established in the last thread) real estate development.

Is it really such a wild leap of logic to think the end game may be trying to build their own arena?

Fair enough. I took it as the typical troll trying to stir up crap when there is nothing to stir up my apologies then. That last line is interesting. Where they built it would be the question. Back on the Island? If so where since the coli is being redone when they leave.

Yha. it really is. Considering the gentleman that now owns the arenas in Brooklyn and Nassau has the team locked up for 25 years. So unless they have visions of a new arena they own 25 years from now.. we can worry about that in 20 years.

The answer to your question is mostly where they can get the best deal - governments make incredibly stupid decisions when it comes to sports teams.

That being said, the economics of it would point to a preference to stay in New York City over a return to eastern LI.

Perhaps i'm giving the Wanger too much credit, but I can't help but think the move to the Barclays Center was a brilliant Machiavellian move on his part - get the islanders into NYC, and then sell them. It's a pretty big difference in franchise value, which would explain the discrepancy from Forbes value (ya, I know) and price paid. And now the new owners can do what they want with the franchise - within the walls of the largest media market in North America.

I could be 100% wrong, the Barclays Center lease may be iron clad, and the Isles could play there (happily) for the next 25 years.

But I'd be willing to bet a beer the new owners will have other ideas.

I think it was just luck for Wang and the Isles that another arena was built for the Nets just 20 miles away and opened at the perfect time (just after the LH project was officially dead.)

I just don't see why the Barclays group would let them out of their lease early, so that the islanders could build a competitive building in their yard... no matter how much they pay to break the lease.. it doesn't make sense to promote your own competition.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Plus its not like the Rangers would let them open up shop in another part of the city either.

Absolutely true.

I just have sincere doubts that their isn't some sort of out clause or two. It's pretty standard procedure.

No way of knowing without actually reading the lease, though.

Dan Petriw,

You said it. This is the best summer the Isles have had it decades. Halak, Dal Colle, Ho-Sang, a legit backup goalie, Grabovski, Kulemin, a couple of low-risk fliers taken on Conacher and Brennan, and finally, new ownership!

Who could have predicted all of this happening just 5 months ago after Garth seemed to completely botch his little Vanek auction and it looked like it was the S.O.S.?
